Concern over the Minnesota Timberwolves is reaching a breaking point. Last year's Western Conference runners-up have been massively inconsistent to begin this season, and although it is still early, things are not looking good on several fronts.
The one big positive is that everyone is healthy. But what does it mean when a team has everyone available, but they still can not seem to turn it into winning basketball games? For the Timberwolves, it means they are still figuring out how to win with a roster that is largely very different from the 2023-24 version that won them 56 games.
Incorporating Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo has been a challenge, and it has been part of the reason Minnesota continues to struggle in a few key areas. We have seen their inability to contain opponents in the open floor, surrendering far too many points in transition. Additionally, they have really been hampered by turnovers and careless mistakes.
All this has led to some very head-scratching losses, like the Wolves' Tuesday night loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on the road. The worst part about this loss was that they could not correct their mistakes, and ended up losing to the lowly Blazers again the very next night on Wednesday.
Social media reacted to the Timberwolves' crushing loss
For many, it is time to panic. Minnesota is looking in many ways like the 2022-23 version of the Timberwolves that consistently struggled to take care of business against inferior competition. The frustration from the fanbase was evident all across social media after the crushing defeat to the Blazers on Wednesday night.
Wolves fan Wilder Adams (@whatsontapnba) listed off several relevant problems Minnesota continues to grapple with. Frankly, we could go on all day discussing each point on the list, but just the fact that we can look at all these problems and nod our heads in agreement at basically each one is pretty telling.
Adams asked for more relevant problems the Timberwolves are dealing with from his followers. David (@USA_David_) cited the loss of Kyle Anderson as a problem, stating that Minnesota seems to be a lower IQ team without him.
Timberwolves publication The Daily Wolves (@TheDailyWolves) stated, "We traded vibes, chemistry and the most loyal player in franchise history for this. I’m sick." It is certainly feeling like doomsday for many in the fanbase. After the season this team had last year, that viewpoint is understandable.
But as we know, it is unlikely the team stays in this funk they are currently in for the entire season. Chris Finch and the coaching staff are more than capable of making tweaks and helping their guys iron out the problems plaguing them the most.
It makes sense that emotions are going to take control when the Timberwolves look like a shell of their former selves. However, at just over three weeks into the season, there is still plenty of time for this ship to be righted. Every game counts in a stacked Western Conference, but it is far from over for Minnesota.
