While a path to acquire the two-time MVP is pretty narrow and rather unlikely, it isn't impossible. This is due to Giannis Antetokounmpo having a well-known admiration for Anthony Edwards, making it possible that the Wolves could have a place near the top of his "favorites" list.
According to The Stein Line, the mutual interest between Giannis and the Wolves has been what has driven the initial trade discussions, although no deal is close.
“League sources say that the prospect of teaming up with Anthony Edwards holds strong appeal for Antetokounmpo, which led to some notable backchannel discussions in recent months that lend true legitimacy to Minnesota’s status as a potential landing spot despite the undeniable obstacles that the Timberwolves would face,” The Stein Line said.
Of course, at the end of the day, the NBA is a business, and the Bucks are in a position both financially and team-building-wise where they need to accept the best package for Giannis, regardless of where his interests lie. However, if Giannis wants to be traded to the Wolves, that's a clear advantage for Minnesota.
The Wolves would need to part ways with fan favorites in any deal
Unfortunately, in all trades, you need to give talent to get talent, and to get a top-three player in the sport, you need to give a lot of it. A frontcourt of Giannis and Rudy Gobert doesn't make sense spacing-wise (although the defense would be otherworldly), so you may have to move Rudy to a third team (the Bucks have no use for him in a rebuild). Perhaps Gobert gets moved later down the road instead.
The Bucks would most definitely covet Jaden McDaniels as a building block, and Julius Randle is another player whose playstyle doesn't mesh well with Giannis. On top of this, the Wolves would likely say goodbye to guys like Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr, who could be good pieces for a rebuilding Bucks team.
Milwaukee also has interest in getting draft capital back -- something the Wolves can't offer. However, a three-team deal with the Portland Trail Blazers could satisfy the Bucks' needs. In this scenario, the Wolves would likely ship out McDaniels to Portland while Randle would likely head to the Bucks.
Whatever the exact trade is, Anthony Edwards and Giannis would be one of the more unstoppable duos in recent history, and if Giannis tells the Bucks he wants to come to Minnesota, a deal is certainly possible if the Wolves are willing to go all-in on a championship window right now.
