The Minnesota Timberwolves received the disappointing news that Anthony Edwards will miss time with right knee inflammation. The Wolves are one of quite a few teams that are jockeying for playoff positioning late into the regular season, and being without their superstar guard wouldn’t help in that regard.

On Wednesday night, Minnesota’s offense didn’t miss a beat even without their nearly 30-point per game scorer in the lineup. They dropped 147 points on the Utah Jazz, a point total that the franchise hadn’t reached for almost three years (in a non-overtime game).

The Timberwolves scored 43 points in the opening 12 minutes in their 147-111 victory over the Jazz on Wednesday. It was a harbinger of things to come for Minnesota as putting points on the board never proved to be much of a challenge throughout their win.

Best offensive performance in three years

After a lesser total of 29 points in the second quarter, the Timberwolves totaled 75 points in the second half, giving them 147 for the contest. That’s the second-most points they have scored in a game this season, only behind the 149 they had against the New Orleans Pelicans on December 2. The difference is that the game went to overtime, and Minnesota had 129 at the end of regulation.

Other than that New Orleans game in early December, their 147 points are the most that the Timberwolves have scored in an outing (overtime or non-overtime) since April 8, 2023. On that date, Minnesota defeated the San Antonio Spurs 151-131. It was a remarkably hot shooting day for the Wolves in that contest as they went 24-43 (55.8 percent) on 3-point tries.

They weren’t quite as scorching on Wednesday against Utah, but they still went an excellent 18-39 (46.2%) from beyond the arc. Four different players (Jaden McDaniels, Ayo Dosumnu, Donte DiVincenzo, and Bones Hyland) all connected on three 3-pointers.

The ball movement was evident against the Jazz, and their 39 assists are a new season-high. Four different players (Julius Randle, Kyle Anderson, Dosunmu, and DiVincenzo) each finished the night with at least six. Minnesota’s 39 dimes are their most since they had 40 against the Pelicans on March 21. 2025.

Look, the Wolves faced a tanking Utah team that is dead last in defensive rating. They aren’t going to do this every game without Ant-Man. The offensive performance was still top-notch and hopefully something that the Timberwolves can build upon until Edwards is back.
