An unrestricted free agent after the season, Coby White is reportedly available for trade from the Bulls. About two months away from turning 26 years old, the seven-year NBA veteran has become one of Chicago’s top scorers, particularly over the last three seasons.
It was reported that the Timberwolves were one of the teams to reach out to the Bulls regarding White. That shouldn’t be too surprising, as Minnesota is known to be in the market looking for a lead guard upgrade and will likely be named as a potential fit for any point guard that is rumored to be on the trade market. With White entering free agency in a few months, though, apparently, that leaves the Wolves as not being too enamored of acquiring him.

I LOVE the idea of adding either of these two guys 👀 pic.twitter.com/tJMP7paLmw
Timberwolves aren't interested in White?
On the latest edition of The People’s Insider on The Stein Line Substack, Jake Fischer went over a variety of topics.
"Our publisher wrote over the weekend that Chicago has been more open to Coby White inquiries than ever before and I'm told that Minnesota has indeed checked in on him, but White's looming unrestricted free agent status next summer certainly offsets some of the attractiveness of his comparatively modest $12.9 million salary," Fischer reported.
It’s understandable to feel trepidation when it comes to adding an impending free agent. Coby White to the Timberwolves isn’t like the Raptors adding Kawhi Leonard, a one-year rental who helped guide Toronto to the franchise's first NBA title.
In the 2023 offseason, White agreed to re-sign on a three-year/$36 million deal with Chicago as he was in restricted free agency. He is going to want a pretty sizable raise from the $12 million annual salary, a salary that Minnesota will have a difficult time being able to afford.
It took until the 12th game for White to make his season debut for the Bulls due to a calf injury. In his 13 appearances, he has posted averages of 21.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, but is connecting on a career-low 31.9% of his attempts from beyond the arc and committing a career-high 3.1 turnovers.
White would help bolster a Minnesota bench that, outside of Naz Reid, has struggled to consistently produce. Whether White were to join their reserves or send Donte DiVincenzo to the bench, that would be another scorer Chris Finch could count on. Making the money would be tricky, as the Wolves likely don't want to move off of Mike Conley, but trading DiVincenzo would be poor value.
