The Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to show some signs of life. After committing numerous repeat offenses that were dragging them down over the course of the first few weeks of the season, they have begun to clean up their mistakes and produce more consistently as a team overall.

Problems on defense still persist, and those will ultimately have to be rectified if this team is to have any chance of reaching their sky-high potential. But the Wolves have made steady progress on other issues and are slowly ironing out their problems defending in transition and turning the ball over.

Things are coming together nicely, and Minnesota has strung together a few impressive wins over the last two games. An overtime victory at Sacramento and a last-second home win over Phoenix were both big instances of the Timberwolves getting it done when things mattered most in clutch time. Now, Minnesota makes a new roster move that will have implications for later in the season.

On Tuesday, the team's official PR announced that Terrence Shannon Jr. will be assigned to the G League affiliate Iowa Wolves effective immediately.

Terrence Shannon Jr. is headed to Iowa

After being taken with the 27th-overall pick by Minnesota in the 2024 NBA Draft, Shannon was seen as a massive steal by many. He was expected to get a shot at playing in the rotation from day one, but that opportunity is yet to materialize.

It seems that perhaps what happened for Shannon as well as Rob Dillingham is that the additions of Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo changed things a bit, and now there is less opportunity for the young guys to get on the floor a lot. As the coaching staff works on figuring out how best to make their new players work well together, there has likely been less use for getting the rookies reps.

Instead, Shannon will head to the G League where he will be able to get plenty of playing time and really let his talent shine. It will be the first assignment he has with Iowa this season, and we should expect to see him show out and get his game off. This should prove a great next step for the talented young wing that should eventually be playing regular minutes for Chris Finch in Minnesota.
