All signs point to Bradley Beal being bought out by the Phoenix Suns. The Minnesota Timberwolves could be an intriguing landing spot for Beal. While it’s been believed that the Wolves will stand pat after missing out on Kevin Durant, if they could land Beal on a cheap deal, it’s at least worth exploring this possibility. Notably, the Wolves have reported interest in Beal.
After the Wolves eliminated the Suns in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, made a draft day trade with them just weeks ago, and shut down their interest in Naz Reid, this would be another connection between the two franchises.
Beal fits the Wolves' needs
The Western Conference Finals highlighted the Wolves' need for perimeter shot creation and playmaking next to Anthony Edwards. Beal’s perception among fans and media members is low right now. Nevertheless, Jake Fischer reported there would be considerable interest for Beal if he hits the open market and that the Wolves are among the teams expected to show interest. Despite his absurd contract, Beal was a productive player in Phoenix. This past season, he averaged 17 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 49.7/38.6/80.3 shooting splits. Beal is still a high-level three-level scorer and a capable secondary playmaker.
Unless Minnesota cuts some salary beforehand, Beal would likely have to take a veteran’s minimum to play for the Wolves. In Minnesota, his role would be clear: provide scoring and playmaking off the bench. Beal could also be used as more of a spot-up shooter when playing next to the starters. This would help negate some of the concerns with Beal in Phoenix. If Beal is willing to buy into a smaller role and take less money, this could be a perfect pairing.
After all, the Wolves likely offer Beal the best chance to win a title. If Beal prioritizes winning, Minnesota would be the perfect landing spot for him, given how well he fits their needs. It’s worth considering how adding Beal into the mix would impact the Wolves’ younger players, including Rob Dillingham, Terrence Shannon Jr., and Jaylen Clark. While it’s possible Beal stunts their growth, adding him would likely give the Wolves a better chance to win a title.
Ultimately, there are a lot of factors on both sides for this possibility to become a reality. Nevertheless, Beal clearly fits their needs and could be the missing piece to their title run. If Beal turns his perception around with the Wolves and contributes to winning basketball, it would be gut-wrenching for the Suns.
