Timberwolves' dynamic duo helps make the team a challenging matchup

Shortly after joining the Minnesota Timberwolves at the trade deadline, Ayo Dosunmu developed a lot of synergy with Bones Hyland. The duo quickly became ingrained in the hearts of Wolves fans, earning the nickname "Twin Turbos" for their breakneck speed.

Dosunmu and Hyland constantly pushed the pace and looked for each other in transition, giving the Wolves some extra energy off the bench each night. The numbers back up their impact as they posted a plus-7 net rating on the floor together.

After years of playing at a slow pace, Minnesota cracked the top 10 in pace and transition points last season. Undoubtedly, the Twin Turbos duo helped the Wolves commit to this fast-paced identity. And with LaMelo Ball in the mix, the Timberwolves are primed to double down on this style of play.

The Timberwolves' fast-pace style of play makes them a tough matchup

While Ball will be orchestrating much of the Timberwolves' transition activity, make no mistake: Twin Turbos will remain central to their success and identity. Specifically, these two guards, along with LaMelo, will ensure that the Timberwolves will always play at a fast pace. Given how well Dosunmu and Hyland meshed, Chris Finch will likely look to pair them whenever possible.

I've advocated for Ayo to come off the bench in a super sub role to give the Wolves a dependable bench creator. Being able to pair him with Hyland more is another benefit of this idea.

Playing at a fast pace isn't just some fun gimmick or talking point -- it's a massive advantage that makes you a difficult matchup. By playing faster and getting out in transition, opposing defenses have less time to get set, and this, in turn, leads to open shots. Furthermore, it helps you get more possessions and tire out a defense.

We saw how the Indiana Pacers made life difficult for opposing teams with this style of play, and the Timberwolves can replicate this.

Now, you have to have the personnel to make this work, but thankfully the Wolves do. In addition to LaMelo, Ayo, and Bones, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Terrence Shannon Jr., and Joan Beringer all thrive playing at a faster pace. Granted, Edwards has been open that he's not fond of playing fast, but his athletic gifts make him built for this style.

The larger point here is that the Wolves' run-and-gun style can give opposing defenses headaches. LaMelo should be able to take this affinity for transition to the next level.

Regardless, what really makes the Timberwolves such a dangerous team in transition is their all-around options and ability to constantly play with this style. There's no denying that Dosunmu and Hyland are a key part of this. In their first full season together, Twin Turbos will continue to capture the hearts of fans and provide the Timberwolves with a genuine basketball advantage.
