It's not breaking news to say that the Minnesota Timberwolves need a point guard. One team that can fill this need for a point guard is the Chicago Bulls. Notably, the Wolves have expressed interest in three of Chicago's point guards: Coby White, Tre Jones, and Ayo Dosunmu.
The Timberwolves' recent game against the Bulls unfortunately ended in their fourth straight loss -- which is a clear concern. Nevertheless, they got an up-close look at all three possible trade targets, and one stood out: Tre Jones.
Of course, making a decision on who you want to trade for after one game isn't wise. Still, there's no denying that Jones' fit with the Wolves would be ideal, and this game is further evidence of why he'd be a perfect fit with the Timberwolves.
Jones posted 12 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. This stat line might not jump out, but his impact as a playmaker, finisher, and defender was immense. The 6-foot-1 guard had some clutch defense, which helped the Bulls pull off an upset win.

Jones is the ideal trade target for the Timberwolves
To me, the Timberwolves need a well-rounded guard. Most notably, a player who can generate rim pressure, playmake, and defend at the point of attack is the skill set the Wolves need. And that's the exact skill set Jones has!
Minnesota saw this first-hand as Jones blew by defenders while driving to the rim relatively. He organized the offense as a traditional point guard. Plus, as mentioned earlier, he played stiffling on-ball defense. This is what Jones brings to the table on a nightly basis.
According to Basketball Index, Jones ranks in the 96th percentile for rim shot creation, the 90th percentile for perimeter isolation defense, and the 98th percentile for playmaking talent. These numbers perfectly underscore Jones' impact.
Now you might be wondering why in the world the Bulls would be open to trading Jones? As noted earlier, Jones isn't the only Bulls PG Minnesota is interested in, with Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu being the other two. Simply put: the Bulls have a logjam at point guard. That's not even to mention that Josh Giddey (their best player) is a point guard.
With White and Dosunmu entering free agency, perhaps the Bulls would be more open to trading one of them. However, if the Bulls see either White or Dosunmu as a part of their long-term future, then trading Jones would be logical. Getting younger would also benefit the Bulls, who are stuck in the middle of the standings and should frankly commit to a rebuild.
For the Wolves, Jones being under contract until 2028 (with a team option before that season) makes him the more attractive trade target. I think some combination of Rob Dillingham, Terrence Shannon Jr., and draft capital could get a deal done.
Ultimately, Jones is the perfect trade target for the Wolves, and he could help them put together another deep playoff run.
