It has been a rough go for the Timberwolves since last Friday. They have played three times since then without a single win. Two of their losses came in late-game meltdowns against the Suns and Kings, where they folded late in the game. Most recently on Wednesday, they battled hard against the one-loss Thunder but missed 15 free throws in an eight-point loss.
That gives Minnesota three straight losses and has dropped its record to 10-8. They had four losing streaks of at least three games last season. Only once did they lose a fourth straight, and that came almost exactly a year ago.
Timberwolves last lost four in a row in late November of 2024
It took some time for the Timberwolves to get going last season. Of course, they made a late offseason trade for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, trading away Karl-Anthony Towns in the process. It took some time to get the two new players fully acclimated after not having close to a full offseason together.
Entering their game on November 21, 2024, Minnesota owned an 8-6 record. After their game played six days later, their record had fallen to 8-10.
Much like their recent three losses, each of the first three outings of their four-game losing streak last season were close affairs. Those three games from last season were lost by a combined 10 points, with one coming in overtime.
Minnesota's current three-game losing streak has seen them lose those contests by a combined 14 points, and the Kings' game went to overtime. Their fourth straight loss last season came by 11 points at the hands of Sacramento.
Minnesota’s four-game losing streak nearly extended to five last season. They barely eked out a one-point win over the Clippers on November 29 to put an end to their losing ways.
A losing skid of at least four straight games hasn’t been all that common for the Timberwolves of late. As a matter of fact, in 2023-24, when they finished 56-26, Minnesota never even lost three straight.
In order to avoid their first four-game losing streak in a year, they will have to do something they haven’t accomplished all season. On Saturday, the Timberwolves head on the road to take on the Celtics. Boston currently owns a 10-8 record, and Minnesota is 0-7 this season against teams with winning records.
