The good vibes surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves started soon after the offseason began. Trading for LaMelo Ball gave the team an electric backcourt that should provide plenty of excitement every time they suit up together.
(No, the Wolves didn’t land LeBron James, but most fans realized it was highly unlikely that he would sign with Minnesota.)
This offseason, the team has often bonded, whether it’s the majority of the team at once or just a couple of individuals. It’s promising to see after a season in which the moodiness the club sometimes experienced was quite noticeable.
All smiles this offseason for the Timberwolves
It’s rare to see a Timberwolves player’s social media this offseason without a smile on their face.
The most notable moment was the team’s trip to France to visit Rudy Gobert. Nearly the entire team was there, including the two-way players. Gobert recapped the visit in a video he posted on social media. Jaylen Clark also has a two-part video on his YouTube channel.
Anthony Edwards seems to want to take on more of a leadership role this year. He made sure to quickly build a rapport with Ball after they officially became teammates. Ant-Man even revealed at Fanatics Fest in July that Ball stayed at his home for a few days.
Recently, at Clark’s basketball camp for youth, there was a very special guest: none other than Edwards. The two even had the whole camp sing “Happy Birthday” in unison to Ball as Edwards FaceTimed him.
Even a negative event, such as Donte DiVincenzo’s injury, has been shown in a more positive light. After tearing his Achilles during last season’s playoffs, DiVincenzo has had his recovery documented in two episodes of a series published by the Timberwolves’ YouTube channel. On Tuesday, Timberwolves social media even shared pictures of him on the court.
Wednesday just added another layer to the good vibes this offseason after it was announced the team signed Jonathan Kuminga. Their much-publicized hole at the starting power forward position has now been filled. It's been mentioned how Edwards and others were part of the recruiting process, and there's no reason to believe that this team won't welcome him with open arms.
A happy offseason doesn’t necessarily mean a super season is in store. It’s still great to see so much team bonding as training camp nears.
The moodiness reared its ugly head far too often last season. If the good vibes from the players continue into the season—and there’s no reason to believe they won’t, for the most part—the Wolves will be more enjoyable to watch as well.
