December 8, 2022. That is the date of the last time that Alize Johnson saw action in an NBA game. The three-year anniversary of that date was about three weeks ago. Now 29 years old, Johnson is currently rostered by the Iowa Wolves of the G League after spending a couple of years overseas. His play with Iowa this season could put him back on the radar for NBA teams.
Season-best performance by Johnson on Monday
It was a stellar outing for Johnson in Iowa’s most recent game on Monday against the Delaware Blue Coats. In the Wolves’ 136-115 victory, the 6-foot-9 forward totaled 40 points on 15-21 shooting (5-8 on threes) to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Johnson has now made 18 combined appearances this year for Iowa in the Tip-Off Tournament and regular season. Overall, he is averaging 17.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.1 steals. Johnson has shooting splits of 55/35/69.4. He has tallied eight double-doubles in points/rebounds and has eight outings of at least 20 points.
Johnson played parts of five seasons in the NBA
It was back in 2018 when the Indiana Pacers selected Johnson in the second round (50th overall). Seeing time in all five seasons from 2018-19 until 2022-23, Johnson played for six different teams (Pacers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, and San Antonio Spurs) for a total of 76 games. During his NBA career, Johnson has posted averages of 2.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 7.5 minutes. On April 29, 2021, while with the Nets, he had a 20/20 performance against the Utah Jazz (20 points, 21 rebounds).
In the offseason, Johnson was signed to a training camp deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He saw preseason action in 5 games for Minnesota, scoring 19 points before Johnson was waived and assigned to Iowa.
With January 5 being the first day teams can sign a player to a 10-day contract, Johnson could be a name to look at in potentially receiving one. It likely won't be with the Timberwolves, but some team could roll the dice on Johnson, especially if they are dealing with injuries.
Meanwhile, he will look to continue his excellent play on Wednesday afternoon when Iowa once again takes on Delaware.
