The Minnesota Timberwolves have two preseason games remaining on their slate, and just five days remaining before final roster cuts must be made. As of Wednesday, the team's latest roster move has been made official.

Ahead of Minnesota's Wednesday night preseason action in Chicago, the Timberwolves have officially waived Skylar Mays. After joining the Wolves one month ago on a training camp deal, Mays departs Minnesota without appearing in a preseason game.

According to Timberwolves radio host Alan Horton, Skylar is planning to sign with Fenerbahce of the Turkish Super League. This move officially brings Minnesota's roster down to 20 players, with two more roster cuts to come between now and October 21 at 4:00 PM CT.

Frankly, the writing seemed to be on the wall for Mays after he did not get one minute of action through three preseason contests. Now, with two more players set to depart the roster before the opening night of the regular season next week, there are some obvious candidates to be on the outside looking in when things are all said and done.

Daishen Nix, Jaylen Clark and Jesse Edwards currently occupy the Timberwolves' three two-way roster spots. The team currently has all 15 full-time roster spots filled, leaving Eugene Omoruyi and Keita Bates-Diop taking up the only two remaining training camp roster spots. As of now, it would seem that those two guys would be the prime candidates to be cut in the next five days.

The only thing that would seemingly change this circumstance is some kind of big performance from one of those two in the remaining preseason games. That might force Minnesota's hand to change around their two-way contract situation, but even that outcome is unlikely.

Expect Omoruyi or Bates-Diop to be cut loose ahead of the October 21 deadline next Monday. At that point, the Timberwolves' roster will be set to go for the 2024-25 season.
