Ty Jerome has been playing well for the Memphis Grizzlies since returning from injury, and he could be a perfect trade target for the Minnesota Timberwolves when the offseason comes around. He could be a perfect depth piece to play behind and alongside Anthony Edwards at the guard position. Jerome just brings a lot to the table.
The veteran point guard missed a significant amount of time to begin the season. He made his debut for the Grizzlies on January 31, and he’s still dealing with the remnants of his left calf strain injury. That said, since he’s been back in the lineup for the struggling Grizzlies, he’s given them some solid production.
And the Timberwolves could use his talents in their rotation.
Ty Jerome will be perfect offseason trade target for Wolves
Jerome signed a three-year, $28 million deal with the Grizzlies this past summer after enjoying a career year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs were the best team in the East by a landslide, and Jerome was a huge part of their success.
His ball-handling and three-point shooting made him an ideal bench piece in Cleveland, and he ended up finishing third in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year voting because of it.
Now with the Grizzlies, he’s playing better than ever. Since Memphis isn’t in the playoff race, Jerome has the ball in his hands more than he likely otherwise would, and he’s made the most of that opportunity.
Since making his Grizzlies debut on January 31, Jerome has appeared in 11 games for Memphis. He has started in all 11 games and has been playing 21.8 minutes per contest.
And in those minimal minutes, Jerome has put up the best numbers of his career. He has averaged 20.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 48.3% from the floor and an elite 40.3% from deep on 6.5 three-point attempts per contest.
As the Wolves look to improve their roster this summer, adding extra ball-handling, scoring, and three-point shooting should be a crucial goal of theirs.
Jerome would add all three of those things to their lineup. He could help take a ton of pressure off Edwards while also giving the Wolves a guy to run things through off the bench.
Obviously, they have guys like Donte DiVincenzo and Ayo Dosunmu in the lineup already, but Jerome’s efficiency is a bit more consistent than both of those guys.
He could help take the Wolves’ overall offensive production to another level. Minnesota won’t be able to make anything happen until the summer, but Jerome already looks like the perfect trade target.
