Fit with the Timberwolves:
It’s unlikely that the Timberwolves will wind up with Mudiay in this draft. Additionally, even if the Wolves did select him, the fit wouldn’t be that great. He would likely enter the team as a backup point guard behind Ricky Rubio and possibly Zach LaVine.
However, an athletic, scoring point guard like Mudiay would be a nice addition to this roster and a good counterpart for Rubio. It would also be fun to watch Mudiay run a fast break with guys like Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad, and LaVine.
Now, if Rubio would happen to be traded by the Wolves, then the idea of drafting Mudiay becomes much more realistic. He would come in and likely become the starting point guard for this team with LaVine getting some minutes at the point as well. Mudiay’s athleticism makes him an attractive point guard to add to a roster that already has some freak athletes on it.
However, Mudiay in a Timberwolves jersey is very unlikely at this point. Additionally, I have high hopes for Rubio this season as he gets a chance to get a full season in with all these young guys. We’ll keep an eye on the interest level of the Wolves in Mudiay here at DWW.
