Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 Goals For Tyus Jones
Don’t Try To Do Too Much
Although Jones played in more games last season than during his rookie year, he averaged less minutes per contest. He played just about 13 minutes per game last season compared to 15.5 his rookie year. However, he visibly and statistically improved last season. He looked much more comfortable on the court and improved his field goal and three-point percentages (.359 to .414 from the field and .302 to .356 from three.)
The improvement doesn’t mean Jones needs to press in order to get more playing time. What Jones should do is make valuable use of his time by playing with hustle and smarts. The Wolves already have enough pieces to their offense in Towns, Wiggins, Butler and company to score. Jones as the ability when needed, otherwise he shouldn’t try to do too much and just play basketball.
He needs to stick to the basics serving as Teague’s backup. Dish the ball to the superstars, hustle after loose balls and as a 21-year-old, keep improving his game. He is still far too young and not nearly developed enough to jump right into action and control a game. Over time I believe he will be fully capable. Just not yet.
