10. Marcus Georges-Hunt (9)

Season stats: 3.8 MPG – 0.9 PPG – 0.2 APG – 0.2 SPG – 53.8% FG – 40% 3PT – 25% FT

Weekly stats: 3.6 MPG – 1.3 PPG – 66.7% FG – 100% 3PT

It was another inconspicuous power rankings week for the fan-beloved Marcus Georges-Hunt.

The 6-foot-5 wing remains as a largely unnoticed part of the Minnesota Timberwolves offense, relegated usually to a corner shooter that rarely gets a look.

The proof is in the pudding as MGH failed to register a single shot attempt over his first three games this week, albeit in just seven minutes of action as Thibs tightened Georges-Hunt’s minutes with Nemanja Bjelica back in action.

He did have a mini-outburst in front of the Target Center crowd against the Lakers, as he scored a fast break layup, and an end of game isolation pull-up 3 – much to the delight of Wolves heads who love to see him involved in the offense.

There is a reason the undrafted product has continued to garner minutes from defensive stickler Tom Thibodeau however, he works hard and gets results on the gritty end of the floor.

Over the course of the week, opponents of Georges-Hunt shot a team-best 41.7 percent, nailing only 16.7 percent of their 3-point attempts, another team-best. It is clear that MGH is using the energy preserved from his minor offensive role to propel himself into energy-filled defensive spurts.

Thibs has even started checking him in to guard players in end of quarter situations, in this example the result is bad, but you can still the intensity and effort of the wing.

If Georges-Hunt can start to find ways to score in the Wolves offense and keep up his defensive prowess in the meantime, he will have to keep sneaking a few minutes every game.
