On Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves released their new City Cities Edition uniforms, and they’re awesome. What say you?

The Minnesota Timberwolves‘ first-ever City Edition uniforms were somewhat of a dud. You remember: the gray version of the Association and Icon editions with a few flecks of texture on the sides that supposedly resembled the fur of a timberwolf.

Then, we had the objectively awesome Prince-inspired City uniform in 2018-19.

And now, we have a City design that is truly Twin Cities-inspired.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced the latest version in the line of City jerseys via a press conference and a packaged video on the team website. Also of note: they’re referring to it as the “Cities” Edition, a combination of “Twin Cities” and the NBA/Nike’s terming of each team’s “City Edition” jerseys.

The landing page that has the uniforms and details on available merchandise is well done, although there isn’t nearly the extensive explanation on the design itself that there was in previous years, either with the complete redesign rollout or the subsequent jersey designs.

That said, it appears as though the Wolves are partnering with locally-based clothing companies to provide gifts included in unique, single-game ticket packages on select nights throughout the season. That also means that the Wolves are linking back to each of those companies’ individual websites from this landing page.

It’s a cool shoutout to local businesses and a good move by the Wolves.

As far as the jersey design, the reaction appears to be mixed across the Twittersphere. Personally, I’m a big fan of clean designs, and the white on what appears to be a lake-inspired shade of blue is just that.

It would have been cool to see the team do a bit more with either the skylines or perhaps some lake outlines, etc., but the logo on the waistband of the shorts that shows the path of the Mississippi River cutting through the city limits of both Minneapolis and St. Paul is legitimately awesome.

The first time we’ll see these duds on the court will be Friday, Dec. 13 against the L.A. Clippers. It appears to be the first of five home games in which they’ll be worn, although there have been select road games that feature the City jerseys in the past, so stay tuned.

All in all, this is a neat release by the Wolves, and it’ll be fun to see them on the court in just a few short weeks.
