1.  Jae Crowder – Miami Heat

Jae Crowder is a soon-to-be free agent wing for the Miami Heat and has been a key part of their run to the Finals, averaging 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds in the playoffs. Crowder’s energy at both ends of the court would certainly bring a lot to the Wolves, both on the floor and off the floor.

From a financial standpoint, Crowder makes a lot of sense for the Timberwolves. Crowder’s expiring contract is valued at $7.8 million, which represents an affordable number for the Timberwolves as it sits. This number is consistent with what Crowder has earned throughout his career.

Despite his outstanding playoff performance, his age (31) should somewhat limit his ability to earn any sort of massive pay increase, meaning Crowder is likely to remain an affordable price for the Wolves. Realistically, the Wolves should be able to stay under the $10 million-per-year mark, which is more than reasonable for a player that could realistically start for the Wolves at the Small Forward position.

Crowder’s shooting has been solid for the Heat, hitting 3-pointers at a 35.7 percent clip off the bench. Crowder is a strong off-ball mover which puts him in good positions to shoot and drive. His athleticism gives him the threat of shooting and driving, which the Wolves need from their wings in order to compliment KAT and D’Lo.

On the other end of the floor, Crowder is able to guard positions 1 through 4 due to his athleticism and length. Crowder’s versatility on defense would be extremely valuable for a Timberwolves defense that was one of the worst units in the league last season.

There will certainly be the challenge of luring Crowder away from a Finals squad, but if the Heat look to bring in another max-player next season, they will need to clear cap space, which could work in the Wolves’ favor if they target Crowder.
