Okay, I know. It seems like a long shot that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be traded. However, I don’t think it is particularly unlikely. First, if the Thunder have the opportunity to add not just Anthony Edwards, but other assets as well, I don’t think it would necessarily be a negative move for Oklahoma City.

Gilgeous-Alexander is a good, young player, but he also is not quite on the level of Donovan Mitchell or Jayson Tatum – he is about a tier below them, someone that has a chance to become a future All-Star.

The Timberwolves would be giving up two top-10 picks, and Sam Presti seems dead set on adding as many assets as possible – and depending on how he values SGA, might not be sold on him being the centerpiece of it all.

For the Timberwolves, they are able to flip Rubio for another versatile forward while also not losing much from their guard rotation since Gilgeous-Alexander is also being traded for. SGA would be the third main, young piece that the Timberwolves would have that could essentially be apart of the Minnesota big-three – alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
