Sometimes, all it takes is a social media post from a professional athlete to excite a fanbase. That’s doubly true when it comes from that team’s best player.

Superstar guard Anthony Edwards posted a brief, succinct message on his Threads account. During a time of year that is somewhat of a slow news period in the NBA landscape, Timberwolves fans just needed that very short message to help them get even more hyped for the upcoming season.

When Anthony Edwards has something to say, Wolves fans listen

The Wolves are currently in their most successful period in franchise history with back-to-back conference finals appearances. It has brought much hope to the team’s fans who are used to their favorite NBA franchise yielding clubs that aren’t even close to being contenders.

Remember, this is a team that didn't make the playoffs every year from 2005 until 2017, and one that had just a single year getting past the first round of the postseason in franchise history prior to 2024. The state of Minnesota as a whole is yearning for a sports title. None of their major men's sports teams has won it all since the Twins won the World Series in 1991.

Having a top young player (who actually turns 24 today) in Edwards, who also started off his career in Minnesota, makes it even more enjoyable to root for the team. When Edwards has something to say, fans tune in. Getting ready to enter his sixth season, Edwards posted this on his Threads account

Other than the random trolls who will always pop up in athletes' comments, the wide majority of responses were about the anticipation they have for the 2025-26 season.

Already an all-time great in Wolves history

The first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Edwards has seen his scoring average increase every year. In each of the last two seasons, he has finished seventh in MVP voting and made the All-NBA second team. Remarkably, he's already the franchise's third all-time leading scorer with 9,097 points (close to halfway to Kevin Garnett's franchise record of 19,201). Did I already mention he’s only 24?

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has also proven to be durable, missing just three games each of the last three years. In 2024-25, Edwards averaged 27.6 points while connecting on a league-leading 320 three-pointers. What’s in store for 2025-26?
