Kevin Garnett is the greatest Minnesota Timberwolves player of all time. However, Garnett’s relationship with the Wolves was notoriously rocky due to issues with former owner Glen Taylor. Luckily, Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore officially taking over as owners, things seem bound to change. Recently, Timberwolves reporter Darren Wolfson spoke about how KG’s relationship with the franchise is now healing with new ownership.
"[Alex Rodriguez] realizes the importance of repairing that relationship, behind the scenes there's already been work done" 👏

Garnett would be perfect in consultant role
It’s been long speculated that Garnett’s iconic No. 21 will finally be retired with new ownership. Wolfson spoke to this as a certainty. But he also mentioned the possibility of Garnett being directly involved in the Wolves' organization.
“Behind the scenes there’s already been work done. You talk to one of KG’s good friends, well multiple good friends here in town Troy Hudson, Gary Trent Sr., yeah they think the likelihood is now. Incredibly more so with Alex and Marc in charge with Glen out of the picture, that something happens. What exactly that looks like, is it a consultant role? I don’t know exactly. Kevin wants to have his fingerprints on the roster.”
Garnett taking on a role as a consultant or something similar would be exciting for the franchise and fan base. Since retiring in 2016, Garnett has been involved in media, including working for TNT and hosting his own podcast. Unlike many former players, Garnett has uplifted the younger generation of players. Garnett’s basketball knowledge and passion would make him a perfect fit for a consultant-like role. If Garnett wants to become a consultant, the franchise should make this move happen.
While Garnett won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008, his Timberwolves tenure is largely why he is considered an all-time great player. With the Wolves, Garnett was a 10-time All-Star and the 2003-04 MVP. During his MVP season, Garnett led the Wolves to a franchise-best 58 wins and their first Western Conference Finals appearance. Garnett gave the Wolves their first taste of success, including their first playoff appearance and their playoff series win.
Now, the Wolves have made back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances. As the Wolves have turned around their fortunes, it’s only fitting that their best player in franchise history takes on an active role with the team. Having Garnett disconnected from the franchise he helped build up always felt strange, but it’s great to see things are finally changing.
Even if Garnett doesn’t become a consultant, simply seeing him in the Target Center more often and finally getting his jersey in the rafters would be a massive win for Wolves fans. Ultimately, getting Garnett back in the fold to some degree is one of the most exciting elements of this ownership change.
