Durant's praise for Anthony Edwards could be next breadcrumb for offseason trade

Is it just speculation... or is it a hint at something larger?

There have been plenty of conversations concerning Kevin Durant from the Minnesota Timberwolves community over the last few weeks. After news broke that the Wolves tried to pull off a trade for the all-time great scorer ahead of the trade deadline, plenty wondered what that could mean for the future. After all, we all already know about the obvious connection that exists between KD and Anthony Edwards.

Durant is Edwards' favorite player of all-time. The two stars had some fun last year during the first round of the playoffs, going at each other on the court and throwing some trash talk in there as well. To follow that up, both guys went and competed as teammates with Team USA last summer, both contributing to a United States gold medal. There seemed to be a growing bond between the grizzled veteran and the up-and-coming youngster.

Now, many are wondering if the Timberwolves could pursue a Durant trade further down the line. It is looking more and more possible that KD could be traded this summer, given the Phoenix Suns' situation. Of course, that means that Wolves fans are keeping their eyes and ears to the ground for anything that seems like a hint he could be coming to Minnesota. Right along those lines, Durant spoke about Anthony Edwards on The Draymond Green Show this week.

KD spoke highly of Edwards

"You've seen Ant, he's got some playoff games under his belt, he's gonna get there," Durant said. "Once (the young guys) reach that level, I think that's when you'll start to see." In talking about some of the bright young talent in the NBA, KD was sure to mention Edwards during his appearance on Green's show.

Listening to this as a standalone sound bite, there's no reason to suggest it indicates anything of greater significance. But when we consider the context of the situation... perhaps he is thinking about what joining forces in Minnesota could look like?

It's still a reach, sure. But that is simply the head frame a lot of Wolves fans are going to be in when listening to Kevin Durant speak from now until the offseason. If KD somehow ends up in a Timberwolves uniform next season, we will add this moment to a list of "see, I told you so" moments. But knowing Durant's personality and the way he loves to uplift the younger generation of hoopers, this was probably just a moment of innocuous admiration.
