An underrated detail could hint at Timberwolves trading for Durant

There's certainly a real possibility of it happening.

The buzz surrounding Kevin Durant potentially joining forces with Anthony Edwards on the Minnesota Timberwolves has gone on for quite some time now. We had known for a while that Edwards' favorite NBA player of all-time was KD, but the rumors really intensified last summer, when the two were teammates on the US national squad at the Paris Olympics.

Since then, and with how much the Phoenix Suns have struggled to live up to their potential, many have begun discussing whether Durant could eventually end up in the Twin Cities. As the 2025 NBA trade deadline came and passed, we nearly saw the Timberwolves pull off a blockbuster trade that would have sent KD to Minnesota.

After the deadline passed, the conversations continued regarding how Durant could eventually find himself in a Wolves uniform. Now, Jon Krawczynski has pointed out on his podcast one reason why it may make sense for Minnesota to pursue KD this coming offseason.

The price for KD could go down this summer

"For people who have kind of blown up my mentions saying, 'We can't give up the farm for KD, we can't do that. He's too old now.' I would say that this summer, I would expect the price to drop considerably on Kevin Durant, if, again if he is made available in a trade because he has one year left on his deal," said Krawczynski.

This is an excellent point by the Timberwolves insider. Given KD's age and his contract situation, it would make sense if the Suns were willing to give him away for less than they were at the February deadline. Minnesota would obviously not want to give up their young pieces for Durant, but as Krawczynski points out, they may not have to.

At the end of the day, the friendship between Ant and KD may be the factor that pushes this scenario to unfold. "There's just a lot of things that go into it," Krawczynski said. "I think a deal is easier to make this summer than it was over trade deadline. It does not mean it will happen, but I would imagine that Ant playfully says, 'Just hang in there big fella, we'll come and get you.' They may have had those conversations this weekend."

No one can say what will happen here for sure. But if the Timberwolves are looking to make a splash like they have done in the past, this would seem to be an obvious route they may try to take.
