The Indiana Pacers’ injury woes began when Tyrese Haliburton suffered a torn Achilles in Game 7 of last season’s NBA Finals. Through just eight games, the injury bug has completely ravaged their roster. Andrew Nembhard, Obi Toppin, Bennedict Mathurin, T.J. McConnell, Johnny Furphy, Quenton Jackson, and Kam Jones are all currently on the shelf.
The team is bringing in a player to fill the roster who recently played for the Timberwolves in point guard Monte Morris.
Monte Morris added by the Pacers on Thursday
It was announced on Thursday that the 30-year-old Morris will be heading to Indiana. It is a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. To make room for him on the roster, the team waived three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung.

It was in late September that Morris was first expected to join the Pacers. It had been announced that he would be signing with them on a non-guaranteed deal, but Indiana went in a separate direction after he sustained a calf injury.
Pacers won’t be signing Monte Morris, GM Chad Buchanan says. He’s actually hurt with a calf injury. They’re still looking for guard depth.

Morris was on the roster of the second Timberwolves team in franchise history to reach the Western Conference finals. It was on February 8, 2024, that Minnesota acquired the 6-foot-2 guard from the Pistons. In exchange, Detroit received Troy Brown Jr., Shake Milton, and a 2030 second round pick.
The expectation was that Morris would slide in as the backup point guard to Mike Conley, a role that had been held that season by Jordan McLaughlin. While he was unspectacular in the role, Morris had 61 assists to 5 turnovers in his 27 regular season outings with the Wolves, an incredible 12+ assist-to-turnover ratio. He struggled from inside the arc, but he connected on 25 of his 59 3-point tries (42.4%).
Once the postseason began and the rotation was shortened, Morris often found himself on the outside looking in. He appeared in nine of their 16 postseason contests for a total of just 67 minutes and shot a subpar 9-30 (30%) from the field.
Once Morris appears in a game with the Pacers, it will be his ninth season playing in the NBA. Four times, he has averaged double figures in scoring with a career-best of 12.6 points in 2021-22 with the Nuggets (Jamal Murray was out for the season that year).
Last season, Morris was rostered by the Suns. With Phoenix struggling for much of the year, he was mostly out of the rotation by February. In 45 games, Morris posted averages of 5.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.
