In his second season with the Timberwolves, Julius Randle has had to constantly adapt to best fit the Timberwolves. From operating as an isolation post scorer to showcasing strong 3-point shooting, Randle has had to do it all for the Timberwolves.

Randle's versatility has increased this season, with Minnesota's absence of a true point guard. In addition to 21 points per game, Randle leads the team in assists, with 5.1 per game.

Randle's playmaking contributions have been essential for the Timberwolves this season. Randle's ability to drive and kick has generated easy 3-point looks, which Minnesota has largely been able to take advantage of.

However, Randle's playmaking has varied this season, often being a litmus test for how well the Wolves are playing. Randle often falls into tunnel vision, where the basket seems to be the only thing in sight. While Randle has been able to score on these possessions, they are outnumbered by difficult shots and unforced turnovers, leading to transition offense for the opposing team.

If the Timberwolves hope to make any noise in the playoffs, it is imperative that Randle embraces a playmaking role and is empowered to do so by the team.

How Julius Randle can embrace a supercharged Draymond Green role on offense

As mentioned, Randle has been elite in his drive and kick ability. With the abundance of perimeter shooters on the Timberwolves, Randle can play a similar role in the offense as Draymond Green, who played an essential role in Golden State's glory years.

In the 37 games Randle has recorded five or more assists, Minnesota has a record of 25-12, indicating the effectiveness of Randle as a playmaker. Outside of penetration in the paint and kickouts, Randle has shown flashes of effectiveness in dribble handoffs. Randle has significantly struggled this season with his three-point shooting, with teams opting to leave him open on the perimeter.

What Randle has done in response is turn toward dribble handoffs with the many capable 3-point shooters on the team. Randle has a particular advantage in his dribble handoffs due to his effectiveness getting to the paint and utilizing his big body in setting screens to create advantages for teammates.

If Randle can offer variance on offense, mixing up scoring with effective playmaking, combined with his improved defense, Minnesota can truly take another leap ahead of the playoffs. Randle's season has been defined by ups and downs, but playmaking should remain game in and game out.

If Randle can consistently put together consistent playmaking, he can enhance the offense for his teammates and himself, which can ultimately help the Timberwolves make another deep playoff run.
