Despite being retired since 2016 and being the most accomplished player in franchise history, Kevin Garnett has yet to have his iconic No. 21 retired by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Garnett's poor relationship with old owner Glen Taylor is why this process has been so delayed. With Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez officially taking over as owners last season, and KG taking on an ambassador role with the team, this was destined to change.
An official announcement from the Timberwolves is expected to come on Friday, but according to Dane Moore, Garnett's jersey retirement ceremony is set for February 28 against the Boston Celtics.

The Wolves play the Boston Celtics that night.
While this is a long overdue honor for the Big Ticket, this is the perfect game for the ceremony to take place on.
Of course, Garnett was traded from Minnesota to Boston in 2007. Timberwolves fans watched from afar as he won a championship in his first year with the squad. Garnett would spend five more years with the Celtics and ultimately became beloved by the franchise, leading to a jersey retirement in Boston. It's only fitting for Garnett's jersey to go up in the rafters when his two primary teams play.

Garnett's 14-year tenure with the Timberwolves was filled with plenty of individual success, and he constantly got the most out of shaky rosters around him. He earned 12 All-Star selections, 10 All-NBA selections, and, of course, an MVP in 2003-04.
Furthermore, Garnett helped lead the Timberwolves to eight straight playoff appearances, having never made the playoffs before his arrival. The Wolves also made their first-ever conference finals appearance during KG's MVP season.
The Timberwolves organization failed to build a sustainable contender around Garnett in his prime, which led to the 2007 trade. Regardless, he helped give the Timberwolves their first taste of competitive basketball and is an indisputable franchise icon.
Minnesota is currently in the midst of its golden era of basketball with Anthony Edwards leading the charge. Surely, there will be several players from this era whose jerseys will be retired. For now, though, Malik Sealy is the team's lone retired jersey.
Without a doubt, the Timberwolves' lack of an illustrious history has made the Garnett jersey retirement saga all the more frustrating. Thankfully, it's time to fully move past this drama and Garnett's previous issues with the organization.
On February 28, there will be nothing but celebration and good vibes at the Target Center as No. 21 goes up to the rafters where it belongs.
