In the recent history of the Minnesota Timberwolves, few players have been as beloved as Patrick Beverley. The fiery defensive-minded guard brought a certain grit and tenacity during his lone season in the Twin Cities that seemed to light a fire around everyone from his teammates and coaches to the entire fanbase as well.
Beverley was always locked in defensively, taking pride in his matchups and was never afraid to get in an opponent's face to let them know he would not cower or back down from a challenge. He had his faults as a player like everyone, but he no doubt gained the respect and love of the entire Timberwolves community during that lightning-in-a-bottle 2021-22 season.
With all that in mind, it makes sense that fans are still coming back to hear his takes on the state of the Timberwolves even in 2024. He remains a beloved figure in Minnesota, and when he speaks, the fanbase generally listens. That gives his take on Tuesday night's season opener a little more weight than the average former player.
Pat Bev says Minnesota looks like a different team
Writing a post on X following the Wolves' loss to the Lakers, Pat Bev expressed frustration with Minnesota's style of play. "Minny looks like a diff team," he wrote. "Have never seen this much iso ball fro them. Still early but this will be interesting."
It feels like Beverley accurately summed up the feelings of most of the fanbase after Tuesday night's frustrating game. There are clearly going to be some growing pains with getting acclimated to Julius Randle in the starting lineup, and things are looking anything but fluid right now.
Like Pat said, the amount of isolation plays was a bit staggering. Wolves fans are used to seeing the ball move quite a bit more, and it seemed like there was some selfishness at times. This is a key issue that will have to be ironed out quickly with Minnesota's daunting Western Conference schedule looming.
We should also note that Beverley made his post at 7:30 AM local time where he was located in Tel Aviv. This means that he likely got up at around 5:00 AM to watch the Timberwolves play basketball, and that alone will only deepen Wolves fans' love for him.
