Anthony Edwards gives extremely on-brand quote about McDaniels and Reid
By Will Eudy
When discussing the Minnesota Timberwolves and their expectations for the coming season, it is hard not to mention Anthony Edwards right away. He is very clearly the best player on the roster, and one of the most game-changing young stars in the NBA. As long as Ant remains in a Timberwolves uniform, Minnesota will be looked at as a championship contender.
But we should not lose sight of the fact that despite Edwards' incredible individual talent, it is the strength of the roster as a whole that makes the Wolves such a force. From top to bottom, Minnesota has capable and reliable players at every position and in every role. With a unique blend of veterans and young talent, the Timberwolves have embodied team basketball in the best way possible.
With just a few weeks remaining before Timberwolves media day and the start of training camp, certain players have already begun putting in work at The Courts at Mayo Clinic Square in downtown Minneapolis. A video posted from Minnesota's official team account on Thursday showed Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid putting up shots and getting in form for the season.
Edwards hyped up the trio of he, Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels
In the edited video, audio plays of Ant talking some smack in his typical fashion. But not to his teammates, rather to the NBA as a whole. "If us three become consistent, y'all are in trouble," he says. "If we can somehow become older than what we are early, we got to be older early. We got to grow early."
The second half of this statement may be worded a little funny, but Edwards' message is still relatively clear. He is simply saying that the young trio of he, Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid can be a major threat if they continue to mature and essentially gain the qualities of the older versions of themselves at a younger age.
At least, that is my interpretation. Ant, if you're reading this, you are welcome to come in here and correct me if need be. But regardless, his message remains, and he makes a solid point. The Timberwolves' young stars have exceeded expectations time and again.
McDaniels finally earned his All-Defensive team bid this past season, while Reid took home the Sixth Man of the Year award. Edwards knows the talent of his teammates, and he understands just how much better Minnesota can get with the increased development of these guys.
