With just a few short weeks remaining until training camp, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be back in action in no time. And yet, all anyone across the fanbase can seem to think about is the long-rumored photoshoot that Anthony Edwards and Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson recently took part in.
For context, a photo from 2000 that featured Kevin Garnett wearing a Vikings football jersey and legendary receiver Randy Moss sporting a Timberwolves basketball jersey had been iconic in Minnesota for years. In the last several years, many fans had advocated for Edwards and Jefferson to re-create the photo.
Now, it appears the two superstar athletes have done just that. A photo surfaced on Monday that showed the pair at an unknown location with a photoshoot setup visible in the background. But although fans are no doubt excited to see the picture Edwards and Jefferson took, there was something perhaps just as interesting in this teaser photo.
Justin Jefferson wore a throwback Timberwolves jersey
We see in this photo Edwards clearly wearing a Vikings football jersey, and Jefferson, with his back turned, wearing a number 5 Timberwolves jersey. But the most interesting detail here is the type of jersey Jefferson has on. It appears to be some version of the throwback jersey used by the Timberwolves in the 2018-19 season.
Of course, this was the jersey that was a close replica of the black alternate jersey worn by the team in the 2000s that featured the green tree trim and the old school "Timberwolves" wordmark. Fans on social media began to speculate. Why would they choose this jersey for Jefferson to wear, especially considering it is not one Anthony Edwards has even worn in his career?
It begs the question of whether the Timberwolves are angling toward using the jersey from the picture or something similar for another throwback jersey in the near future. Or perhaps, it could be part of a larger rebrand that includes a re-design of the standard uniforms, something the Wolves fanbase has been asking for in recent years. Time will tell what Jefferson's jersey choice means.
