Minnesota Timberwolves fans know plenty of Anthony Edwards lore at this point. He of course grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area where he primarily played football growing up. By the time he reached his teens, he had switched to basketball, and brought his dynamic athletic talents over to the hardwood.
Since he started playing basketball at a later age, Ant grew up watching newer NBA stars on TV, some of which are still playing today. Of course, the most notable of these is Kevin Durant, who Edwards has said on multiple occasions is his favorite player.
Ant's history with KD intensified during this past season's playoffs, wherein he and the Timberwolves dismantled Durant and his Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference first round. On one play, Edwards stared directly at his favorite player while pounding his chest. KD could only smile in return, and the moment quickly went viral.
Anthony Edwards and KD seem to have grown closer
Now, Durant and Edwards are teammates on the US Olympic squad, as they work toward earning Team USA its fifth consecutive gold medal at the France Olympics. There have already been multiple bits of news involving the two superstar players.
In July, we saw an incredible photo that showed Ant dunking over KD during Team USA practice. Now, we also have another viral moment from the United States' win over Puerto Rico on Saturday, involving Edwards and Durant doing a new signature handshake during a timeout.
This of course led fans to wonder: could Ant be secretly recruiting KD to the Timberwolves behind the scenes? It is certainly not outside the realm of possibility, given how we have seen the two interact over the course of the last several months.
Durant has also been known to change teams with relative frequency. If things do not work out this coming season in Phoenix, who knows if he may seek a change of scenery and look at coming to Minnesota.
