It is no secret that Anthony Edwards has been on a special run for the last year-plus now. After competing at the World Cup last summer, he put up his best professional season and led the Minnesota Timberwolves to their first Western Conference Finals appearance in 20 years. Oh, and the second-most wins in franchise history too.

Now, he is making waves with the US Olympic team, helping them stay undefeated in exhibition matches before the 2024 Paris Olympics officially begin. But despite Edwards' stellar play, one former NBA player still thinks the all-world talent is being held back.

Enter Gilbert Arenas, one of the NBA community's biggest hot take artists. Recently appearing on his show, Gil's Arena, Gilbert called out Golden State (and US Olympic) head coach, Steve Kerr.

Gilbert Arenas thinks Steve Kerr is mismanaging Edwards

Arenas explains his opinion that because of Kerr's position as the Warriors' coach, he is not playing Edwards as much as he should be. "Who is Golden State's biggest enemy right now?" asked Gilbert. "Who did they have beef with all (expletive) year? Who's the best player on that team?"

He continued his rant by reminding everyone of Ant's enthusiasm in desiring to take on the Warriors this past season, and connecting that to the fact that Edwards has been coming off the bench for the United States. In the mind of the former three-time All-Star, Kerr is connecting his competitive nature against Ant from the NBA regular season to now, when they are aligned on the same national team.

It is easy to understand what Arenas is saying, but believing his words to be true is a bit harder. Painting what Steve Kerr is doing right now as malicious and intentional feels like a major stretch. What is more likely happening when it comes to the benching is a coach simply trying out different things in exhibition leading up to the real competition in a few short weeks.

But of course, figures like Arenas that are dead-set on finding some sort of controversial angle will spin it in this way. Believe what you want to believe on this topic, but remember that Gilbert makes a living off of far-fetched statements like this one.
