Who is coaching the Timberwolves Summer League team?

The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a busy summer thus far. Maintaining consistency in the NBA may be even harder than actually building a winning team, and Minnesota is being confronted with that very task right now.

In trying to remain among the top teams in a stacked Western Conference, the Timberwolves have been doing their best to bring back core pieces while also drafting league-ready talent that can contribute right away. Both of the players the team selected in the NBA draft two weeks ago are set to compete in Summer League in just a few short days.

Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr. will both have a chance to show off their skill and remind Tim Connelly and company why selecting them was the right move. When they suit up to take the floor in Las Vegas, they will be led by Timberwolves Director of Player Development Chris Hines.

Timberwolves assistant Chris Hines will coach Summer League

Stepping up to take the role of Summer League head coach, Hines gets the opportunity following four season on Chris Finch's staff in Minnesota. Born in Houston, Hines attended the University of Houston and Drake University before going to work in the NBA G League (D League at the time).

Hines started working in player development in 2015, earning an Assistant Head Coach spot with the Iowa Wolves in 2019 and becoming the Player Development Coach for the Timberwolves a year later in 2020. His extensive skill in working with players and breaking down film likely made him an easy choice to fill in as Summer League head coach.

Other Timberwolves coaching figures like Micah Nori have been in the headlines more often recently, but Minnesota clearly believes in Hines as their guy for Summer League. Wolves fans can look forward to Dillingham, Shannon and others refining their games through working with the highly-skilled development coach.
