Since being selected first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards has continued to improve. He’s been the best player on a Timberwolves team that has reached back-to-back conference finals. Having turned just 24 years on August 5, Edwards has already established himself as one of the top players in the league.

A 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Edwards certainly has a chance to be seen as one of the greats all-time at the position as his career continues to move forward. He should have many years remaining to improve his standing, as he hasn't even reached his prime yet. For now, most would agree that he is the best shooting guard currently in the league.

On Monday, HoopsHype posted their top 26 shooting guards list for 2025-26. Unsurprisingly, it was Edwards who headed the list, ranked as the top two-guard in the NBA.

Anthony Edwards named as the NBA's best shooting guard

Now, just because Edwards is almost universally seen as the best, doesn’t mean there aren’t a plethora of other superb players at the position. Numbers two through five on HoopsHype's top shooting guard list in order are top NBA performers in Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Williams, Jaylen Brown, and Devin Booker.

Mitchell was the top scorer and a first-team All-NBA member last season on a top-seeded Cavaliers team in the East. Williams made third team All-NBA, and of course, just won a title with the Thunder. Brown was the ECF and Finals MVP in 2024. Booker has averaged more than 25 points each of the last seven seasons (at least 24.9 over the last eight).

The next two are Tyler Herro, an All-Star for the first time last season, and Amen Thompson, an All-Defensive first team member in 2024-25. Other notable names on the list include Austin Reaves, Zach LaVine, Desmond Bane, Jalen Green, and Bradley Beal. While there’s plenty of talent at the shooting guard position, it’s Edwards who is often named as the league's best.

Edwards is a top-5 MVP favorite for upcoming season

Preparing for his sixth NBA season, Edwards has finished seventh in MVP voting the last two years. His scoring average has improved after each season, and his 27.6 points per game in 2024-25 was fourth-highest in the league. Edwards also connected on a league-leading 320 three-pointers.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Ant-Man has the fifth-best odds to win MVP at +1500 (behind Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo).
