Now in his sixth season, Anthony Edwards has spent his NBA career as one of the more durable superstars. In each of the previous three seasons, he has appeared in 79 games, only missing three.

That made the Timberwolves’ game on October 26 all the more surprising and gut-wrenching. Early in the first quarter, Edwards left the court seemingly injured. It was revealed the next day that the 24-year-old suffered a right hamstring strain.

When Shams Charania tweeted out the following day about the injury, he wrote that it would keep him out approximately two weeks.

Anthony Edwards' return shouldn't be far off

Yesterday, one week after Edwards strained his hamstring, Timberwolves’ beat reporter Jon Krawczynski answered a fan’s question on how close he is to returning. While there might be a more definitive timeframe after the re-evaluation takes place, it seems the two-week timeframe first reported may be accurate.

Minnesota plays tonight on the road against the winless Nets. With the awful start that Brooklyn is off to, the Wolves have no excuses not to get back over .500 after playing them (currently 3-3).

After the Nets, Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo return to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Then, Minnesota has its NBA Cup opener at home on Friday against the Jazz.

The next game would come a week after Krawczynski’s tweet and two weeks after Edwards was injured. That Sunday game on November 9, the Timberwolves play in Sacramento against the Kings. That’s the first of a back-to-back, as the day after, they once again play Utah, this time on the road.

If he doesn’t return early, I think there’s a fairly decent chance he doesn’t return until after that. That is because they will have three days off before playing on Friday, November 14, at home against the Kings in their second NBA Cup contest.

Thus far, in the 3 games that Edwards has been forced to sit out, Minnesota owns a 1-2 record. After losing to the Nuggets, they lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Lakers (who were also missing Luka Dončić and LeBron James). They got in the win column on Saturday via a 122-105 victory over the Hornets.

While not having Edwards certainly isn’t ideal, Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels have really stepped up on the offensive end in his absence. It’s a confidence-builder, particularly for McDaniels, that should hopefully continue once Ant-Man returns.
