Timberwolves fall just short of incredible NBA record

It had been a while since they failed to score 100 points.

On Sunday, the Minnesota Timberwolves had their lowest scoring total of the season. They fell 111-85 to the Golden State Warriors in what was their fifth consecutive loss.

Not only is it the fewest points in a single game for them this season, but it is the first time they haven’t cracked 100 all year. It puts an end to one of the longest streaks in NBA history of scoring in triple digits.

More than a year passed without the Timberwolves not reaching 100 points

On January 15, the Timberwolves scored at least 100 points for the 100th straight game when they dropped 105 against the Houston Rockets. Minnesota also did so in the following three contests, before falling short against Golden State.

Those 103 consecutive games of scoring 100-plus points are the third-longest streak in NBA history. Prior to Saturday, the last time they didn’t reach that threshold was back on December 13, 2024, against the Los Angeles Lakers.

With Anthony Edwards being one of the game's top scorers, Minnesota has someone to help the team put up points even when others are struggling. While the streak has come to an end, the Timberwolves will have an opportunity to start a new one (and end their losing streak) when they once again take on the Warriors on Monday.

Only two streaks of 100-plus points have been longer

It has been more than four decades since a team scored at least 100 points in as many consecutive games as Minnesota had prior to Sunday.

The second-longest streak of 100-plus points in league history belongs to the San Antonio Spurs. They did so in 129 consecutive outings, spanning from December 12, 1978, until March 14, 1980. That Spurs team featured George Gervin, who won three straight scoring titles from 1977-78 until 1979-80.

The Denver Nuggets own the longest consecutive games streak of at least 100 points. From January 21, 1981, until December 8, 1982, they reached triple digits in scoring 136 consecutive times. That team was known for constantly being involved in high-scoring games with Doug Moe at the helm, and Alex English winning a scoring title in 1982-83.
