Timberwolves fans have Ayo Dosunmu-sized silver lining amid uncertainty

Even if the offseason is a quiet one, bringing Dosunmu back should make fans pleased.

After the way that the Minnesota Timberwolves were disposed of in this year’s playoffs, the fans’ quick reaction was that the team needed to make wholesale changes. Other than Anthony Edwards (and perhaps Jaden McDaniels), some fans believed everyone else should be on the table to be dealt.

With a little time now having passed, maybe their thoughts have changed a bit. The fans still are aware that the current roster has proven to be not quite championship-caliber, but it will look better if they can get a full season from Ayo Dosunmu.

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report believes the Wolves won't make any major additions.

"They brought back Ayo Dosunmu, though this summer. I think he is probably the biggest addition we can expect for Minnesota at this juncture," Fischer said.

It may be disappointing for some fans to hear that Ayo is the biggest addition we can expect. Regardless, thinking of a full season of Dosunmu with the team should help perk up those same fans rather quickly.

Dosunmu is a must re-sign

It will be great news, and expected news as well, when Ayo Dosunmu re-signs with the Timberwolves. To give up on Rob Dillingham after his second year for a player who only spends a few months with the team wouldn’t be a good look. Plus, Dosunmu proved to be an excellent fit with the club.

However, keeping the status quo isn’t what the fans had in mind after a year where the Wolves advanced one less round than they did in the previous two years. Now, just because Fischer said what he said doesn’t mean it should be taken as gospel. Bringing back Dosunmu should be the priority, though, and his comments make it seem highly likely that Ayo will return.

The Timberwolves will need 3-point shooting with a high-volume deep shooter in Donte DiVincenzo out for much, if not all, of next season with a torn Achilles.

Without knowing any other moves Minnesota is going to make this offseason, Dosunmu is the likely replacement for DiVincenzo in the starting lineup. Ayo will need to increase his 3-point frequency in the absence of DiVincenzo, but he made more than 40% of his attempts from beyond the arc after joining the Wolves.

Sure, the fanbase is always going to look to their team to add a star whenever they fall short the year before. Still, bringing back Dosunmu is necessary, and with the uncertainty around the offseason plan, fans should be thankful that Ayo's return feels inevitable.
