During the Minnesota Timberwolves’ recent stretch of basketball, much of it without Anthony Edwards, the team struggled to put the ball in the hoop. In their eight games between March 20 and April 5, Minnesota’s 102.7 offensive rating was last in the league.
Ant-Man returned on Friday, and the Timberwolves put up 136 points in a win over the Houston Rockets. This was despite being without Julius Randle, their second-leading scorer. With that performance, it is now the most times in franchise history that the squad has put up 130-plus points in a year.
Wolves set new franchise single-season record on Friday
The Wolves now have 14 outings this season in which they have scored 130 points. Per the Timberwolves PR X page, that overtakes the 2021-22 Minnesota team which did so 13 times.
Last night's 136-132 win over the Rockets marked the 14th time this season the @Timberwolves scored 130+ points, passing the 2021-22 Wolves team for the most 130+ point games in a single season in franchise history. pic.twitter.com/a92tEW2pto

Friday was the first time that they reached that scoring threshold in just under a month. On March 18, they dropped 147 points against the Utah Jazz. That was the most they scored in a non-overtime game in nearly three years.
January was the month that the Timberwolves accomplished the feat the most times. They did so 5 times in their 16 games in the opening month of the year.
Seeing the team break one of their franchise scoring records this season is just a reminder of how potent this offense can be. Recency bias may have caused some fans to forget this.
The Wolves will need their offense to translate to the playoffs
Seeing the team work at its peak offensively will be needed if they are to go on a postseason run. They may be meeting up with the Denver Nuggets in the opening round, a team that leads the NBA in offensive rating.
Even if Minnesota instead matches up with the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, they would likely meet up with the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder later on if they keep advancing. Those two squads rank fourth and sixth, respectively, in offensive rating. Even the Lakers are ninth, although they will be shorthanded.
Needless to say, the Timberwolves' offense will need to be near its best to keep up with some of their potential Western Conference playoff opponents. It was great to see Edwards look healthy in their recent outing. Likewise, it was great to see Naz Reid put up some nice recent performances after struggling throughout the month of March.
The offensive firepower is there for the Timberwolves. Will it be seen consistently enough in the postseason? If so, it will absolutely be a difference maker.
