Recently, the Minnesota Timberwolves' new owners, Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, held a press conference. Two of the most exciting takeaways that came away from this were a possible rebrand and a reverse ticket auction.
"We've done a lot of work in the background. I think our fan base is going to be very, very excited. ... Bringing back some of the history of the KG days is something we're very aware is important to our fan base," Rodriguez said.
“You could dynamically move to any seat in the arena in real-time. So if somebody leaves in the fourth quarter, that seat opens up in a reserve auction. Somebody can buy that seat for five or 10 bucks. So the arena will always be filled at the bottom even if people leave,” Lore said.
Both ideas would undoubtedly be exciting and meaningful to Wolves fans.
Wolves fans would love a rebrand
First, starting with a rebrand, the Kevin Garnett-era jerseys were iconic, and fans would love to see them return. While the Wolves' current logo is solid, the old logo with a giant Wolf, trees, and block letters is better. If this were part of the Wolves’ rebrand, this would delight fans.
Nevertheless, rebranding to the classic jerseys should be a priority for the Wolves. Minnesota’s current uniforms are a bit bland with basic fonts and stripes at the top. The throwback black and blue jerseys with giant block letters and trees around the edges are one of the best looks in NBA history. They are also perfectly suited to the Wolves. Even if there are slight changes, fans would love to see this concept back in action.

The Wolves have previously brought back some of their classic jerseys as alternates. However, this needs to be a full-time change. Recently, the Orlando Magic went back to their classic look, and the Wolves should follow this trend. Given A-Rod’s comments, the Wolves returning their classic look feels likely, and all fans would love this move.
A ticket auction is an exciting idea
In terms of the ticket platform jump idea, this shows that new ownership is committed to giving fans the best experience possible. The real-time auction prices would likely vary based on the game. Still, it offers a potentially affordable option for fans to get quality seats. If tickets aren’t sold at the beginning of the game, a reserve auction could also be in place.
In addition to improving the fan experience, from a business perspective, it would give the Wolves some extra money. The Memphis Grizzlies have previously implemented a reverse auction, and it will be interesting to see how it works out for the Wolves.
Closing thoughts
It’s long been rumored that new ownership will help repair the broken relationship with Garnett, leading to his long overdue jersey retirement, and even KG possibly taking on a role with the team. In the press conference, restoring this relationship was mentioned. Getting the throwback look for the KG era back would be a nice bonus.
In general, one big theme with Rodriguez and Lore is their commitment to making Minnesota one of the league’s best franchises. The Wolves have made back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances, and this mentality is needed. They have often talked about a willingness to spend big this was another common theme during Friday's press conference. Overall, as the Wolves attempt to win their first championship in franchise history, the leadership of Rodriguez and Lore will certainly help.
