Timberwolves' reported Donte DiVincenzo stance is starting to look even clearer

It has previously been reported that the Timberwolves want to keep Donte DiVincenzo, and a mini-series documenting his recovery process adds to the evidence that he's here to stay.

It was fair to wonder if the Minnesota Timberwolves would trade Donte DiVincenzo, given that it's unclear whether he'll play this upcoming season and that his expiring contract would be a valuable trade chip. The possibility was quickly squashed by Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, who reported that Minnesota will not trade DiVincenzo.

And on Wednesday, the Timberwolves released the first episode of a series on their YouTube channel detailing DiVincenzo's recovery from his torn Achilles injury.

The 4:53-minute video took us through the moment in which DiVincenzo suffered the injury during Game 4 of the first-round, and what was going through his mind. It was a chilling video that I would highly recommend watching.

In any event, it's safe to say that DiVincenzo isn't going anywhere, particularly after this video series -- and that's absolutely the right call.

Donte DiVincenzo staying in Minnesota seems even more likely after this YouTube series

I always objected to the possibility of trading DiVincenzo. Simply put, trading someone who is recovering from such a serious injury feels wrong. Beyond that, DiVincenzo remains a super valuable player thanks to his blend of 3-point shooting and connectivity.

DiVincenzo is one of the league's best spot-up shooters, which, paired with his connective playmaking and hustle, makes him a stellar role player and an ideal fit alongside Anthony Edwards.

You need players like this on championship teams. It's not a coincidence that the Timberwolves were 7.1 points per 100 possessions better with DiVincenzo on the court this past season.

On top of everything else, DiVincenzo has established himself as a vocal leader, something the Wolves desperately need.

Given that his game isn't predicated on athleticism, it's fair to be optimistic about what he can look like upon returning from injury. The hope is that DiVincenzo can return at some point this upcoming season.

It's long been clear how much the Timberwolves value DiVincenzo. He was the sticking point of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. Furthermore, at the 2026 trade deadline, the Wolves previously made it clear they had no interest in trading him.

After his devastating injury, the world got to see how much DiVincenzo means to the team when everyone wore his jersey before Game 6. And this series that the Wolves are producing is yet another piece of evidence that DiVincenzo is an indispensable part of the Timberwolves' core.

Overall, DiVincenzo staying in Minnesota should be seen as great news for Timberwolves fans -- hopefully, we get some encouraging signs about his recovery process in future episodes of this series.
