Say what you will about the Minnesota Timberwolves' offseason—trading for LaMelo Ball and signing Jonathan Kuminga is certainly polarizing. However, there's no denying that this team will be dynamic and exciting to watch. The new-look Timberwolves won't just offer excitement to fans—league executives believe they'll be must-see TV.
In the NBA's annual GM survey, the Wolves were tied with the San Antonio Spurs as the most fun team to watch. There's obviously some subjectivity here, but it's hard for me to imagine that people aren't excited to watch this team.
Being tied with a team led by a 7-foot-4 Alien who is coming off an NBA Finals appearance is a testament to just how exciting Minnesota will be this season.
The Timberwolves are must-see TV this season
Anthony Edwards is one of the most dynamic stars in the league. Whether it's jaw-dropping dunks, difficult shot-making, elite 3-point shooting, or his competitive drive, the guy is everything that makes stars fun to watch. He's put the Timberwolves on the map, making them a team with a ton of marketability and mainstream appeal.
Still, the Wolves' offense outside of Edwards often bogged down due to the lack of creation and playmaking alongside him. Now, he shares the backcourt with a dynamic playmaker and perimeter scorer. Even if you aren't all-in on the Ant and LaMelo pairing, you have to be intrigued by this duo, right?
Will this pairing help the Wolves climb the championship mountain top? That's unclear, but they'll surely be a fun team to watch. There are clear moving pieces and volatility with this team, but their upside is sky-high with a roster that better complements Ant.
And from a neutral perspective, isn't that more fun to watch than a team we know is going to be dominant?
As noted, Ball will give the Timberwolves' offense more shooting and playmaking. With his stellar playmaking, the Wolves could turn into Lob City 2.0 while being able to replicate (to some level) the shooting of the Splash Brothers. Who doesn't like watching 3-point shooting and dunks?
On a similar note, the Timberwolves' pace will be a major theme thanks to Ball and their overall athleticism. Last season, they ranked 10th in pace. That number will surely rise with Randle out and the additions of Ball and Kuminga. Playing at a breakneck speed will make Minnesota's offense less predictable and more aesthetically pleasing.
Another under-the-radar reason that the masses should be locked into Wolves' hoops is Jaden McDaniels. He took an offensive leap last year, and thanks to LaMelo's playmaking this trend is poised to continue. The whole world got a taste of his offensive skill set and unshakable confidence in the playoffs last year. While he isn't as big of a name as Edwards or Ball, watching a near 7-foot difficult shot-maker who can lock up opposing stars is always fun.
By all accounts, this Timberwolves team will be incredibly fun to watch, and it's nice to see this excitement goes beyond Minnesota and is shared by league executives.
