In professional sports as well as pop culture, there are rare moments that serve to bridge gaps and unite multiple groups of people in joyous celebration or excitement over one particular thing. One such moment came on Tuesday morning, when Minnesota Timberwolves fans finally got a glimpse at the long-rumored photoshoot of Anthony Edwards and Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson.

The most prominent photo from the shoot depicts Edwards wearing a Vikings football jersey, positioned behind Jefferson, who is rocking a black throwback Timberwolves jersey. The orange background brings the whole picture together. If this whole setup looks familiar to you, it is because this photo was the second version of something famous in its own right.

Way back in March of 2000, Kevin Garnett teamed up with now Hall-of-Fame Vikings receiver Randy Moss to take the original version of this photo. The picture is now a national icon, known far outside the realms of the Twin Cities.

Timberwolves fans got their wish

For a long time, fans had requested — nay, begged — that Justin and Ant collaborate and recreate Garnett and Moss' iconic image. In September, a cameo image was released that teased the photoshoot, but nothing official was revealed to the public just yet.

Now that the photoshoot is complete and in front of both Timberwolves and Vikings fans, it is no doubt going to become the phone background for thousands of Minnesota residents, as well as find itself inserted into countless other places in pop culture. A photo as iconic as this one does not come around very often.

We started to get hints that the shoot could be revealed soon when a video of Edwards and Jefferson was posted by ESPN on Monday, depicting a very bold claim from Ant. It set the stage for Tuesday's exciting reveal.

Plenty of sports fans in the Twin Cities are die-hard supporters of both their Timberwolves and Vikings, with the fall being the time of year where both sports cross over. This was a masterful time to release the pictures, and an overall brilliant idea to grow passion within both fanbases while uniting fans of each team. Excitement level is undoubtedly at an all-time high with the Wolves ready to tip off their 2024-25 season on Tuesday evening.
